Ellie gave us her first scare today. Dad went off to work at a decent hour (6:40 vs. yesterday when I was up at 3:30 and out the door by 4:20), only to get a call from mom shortly after arriving. Little Ellie was throwing up, projectstyle (yes, an original word combination brought to you courteousy of a Trinity Bachelor's degree in English/Communications). And not just once, but 15 times according to mom. Was dad worried? You bet. But I couldn't leave. I was being held hostage behind enemy lines away from my little one. I could only imagine how heartbreaking it was for mom, who had to watch, catch, and clean it up.
Calls couldn't be placed to the pediatrician until 9, which was an hour away. Info Andrea had found on the Internet suggested possible dehydration. Ellie has been hard to feed with the extreme temps here in Grand Junction. Even with a swamp cooler reving since the morning hours, it still manages to climb to a steamy 80+ degrees inside the house. So if you're human, you're not crazy about imbibing warm liquids when it's so hot. So that was our first thought. I waited patiently for about thirty minutes, then called for another update at 8:30, and then at 9:20. Mom had managed to feed her, and she was keeping it down, so we were feeling a little better. One more update from mom at 10:30 had me somewhat assured that I wouldn't have to rush home. So I finished the day, made it home without traffic violation, and found Ellie and mom safe and sound. While Andrea followed the peds directions to buy some pedialyte, she didn't feel it necessary to give any to Ellie, who has been fine the rest of the day. Disaster averted! Way to go mom!
Another day in paradise my friends, another day in paradise. How lucky I am to have such a beautiful family to come home to. But who knows what adventures arise with the sun on tomorrow's horizon.
The pics are of Papa John taking a nap yesterday afternoon, mom taking a breather this afternoon, a little face to face interaction between mom and Ellie, unhappy baby (yes, she does cry), and pacified baby (so that's what God made fingers for!). Until tomorrow...Peace and Blessings.
